The Weippe prairie is bordered by forest and state land making the landscape rustic, scenic and peaceful. Wildlife is abundant and noticeable almost any time of day and throughout all 4 seasons. Ranches and farms nearby provide ever changing and interesting scenery from crops grown to harvest to livestock and more. Hiking and ATV riding are very popular with many trails to explore. Small streams, ponds, lakes and rivers abound for more enjoyment.
The scenic Gold Rush Historic Byway welcomes visitors along the route through Weippe and into neighboring Pierce Idaho, just 10 miles away. This registered landmark commemorates the Lewis and Clark Expeditions of 1805 and 1806.
Roadside markers are available for viewing more information while exploring. Visit the Discovery Center to see archives and treasures preserved at this interpretive facility that shares insights on local history.
